The Architecture of Love

Teddy Soeria Atmadja's 2024 Indonesian film adapts Ika Natassa's novel. Raia, a well-known novelist in the grip of writer's block, goes to New York looking for something to write. There she meets River, an architect carrying the weight of his own past. Their closeness keeps stalling because neither has properly closed the relationship behind them. The film uses New York as romantic setting, and the link it draws between the city's architecture and two people trying to rebuild themselves is obvious but works. The ease between Nicholas Saputra and Putri Marino is strong enough to carry a familiar script. It became one of the most widely seen Indonesian popular romances of recent years. Who it's for: viewers who like unhurried, city-set romantic drama. Who it's not for: anyone wanting an unpredictable story or a film that steps outside the usual shapes.
