In Finland a vast system of tunnels is being cut into rock: the first facility for burying nuclear waste permanently. The problem is less engineering than time, since the waste stays dangerous for a hundred thousand years and the site has to stay closed for all of it. That is the film's real question: how do you leave a warning a hundred thousand years ahead, when no language and no symbol we have lasts anything like that long. Michael Madsen shot it addressing the person of the future directly, while the site was still being excavated.
