Into The Mortal World

The animation carries on the Chinese legend of the Cowherd and the Weaving Maiden and tells of their descendants. The twenty eight constellations hold a power that can bring down the sky and the earth. The Weaving Maiden, who is in charge of those stars, longs for the mortal world, and the stars break away and scatter into it. Years later her son Jin Feng goes down to the mortal world for his mother. Together with a young girl named Xiaofan he sets out to gather the runaway stars. As the journey goes on, who Xiaofan really is and what the Weaving Maiden actually did come to light. The film puts gods and people working together at the centre of the account. It tells not the legend itself but what comes after it, and that is the film’s own choice. Zhong Ding’s hundred and eighteen minute Chinese animation was completed in 2024.
