What Introducing, Selma Blair Is About
In 2018 the actor Selma Blair made public that she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. The documentary follows the period that came after: her effort to have a say over her own health, her rebuilding of daily life around new conditions, and her going into a course of treatment that is still experimental. The film presents the illness as a turning point but draws no lesson from it; it records the good days and the bad days from the same closeness. The camera is in the actor’s home and inside the course of treatment, that is, in a place that usually stays behind a closed door. The account does not set up the illness as an enemy to be beaten but shows it as a condition lived alongside. Rachel Fleit’s ninety minute American documentary was completed in 2021.
