John Candy: I Like Me

The documentary follows John Candy from the Second City years in Toronto to SCTV and on to the period when he was among the most sought-after comic actors in Hollywood. Those speaking include the directors he worked with, his friends and his two children. Colin Hanks does not build it as a collection of fond memories; the jokes made about his weight, the relentless work rate, the fear of death left by losing his father young and his own death from a heart attack at forty-three are all inside the same account. The title comes from a line Candy said in an interview. It went out on Amazon and counts as the most detailed portrait of the comedian so far. Who it is for: viewers who like eighties and nineties comedy and portraits of performers. Who it is not for: anyone expecting only the funny moments.
