It Must Schwing: The Blue Note Story

The documentary takes up a jazz record label. The label is called Blue Note Records. Those who founded it were Alfred Lion and Francis Wolff. Both of them came from Germany. Being Jewish, they had to leave the country. Their flight from the Hitler regime falls at the end of the thirties. They set up the record label in New York. The label took its own place in the history of jazz. The film tells that history from the beginning. The account rests on the testimony of musicians. Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter are among them. Quincy Jones and George Benson are in the film as well. Thelonious Monk appears in Eric Friedler’s German documentary of 2018, which runs a hundred and fifteen minutes.
