It's a Hard Truth Ain't It

The documentary was shot inside a prison. The place is Pendleton Correctional Facility in Indiana. It is a maximum security institution. The director Madeleine Sackler was given access to it. Inside she ran a workshop lasting a week. Thirteen incarcerated men took part in it. Sackler began by teaching them filmmaking. Then she put cameras in their hands. The men began to film one another. The questions and the answers both come from them. Part of what they say is shown through animation. Yoni Goodman drew those sequences. The thirteen men are counted among the film’s directors. The work stands beside O.G., a fiction film by the same director. The seventy five minute documentary was shown at Tribeca. The American production was finished in 2018.
