It's a Long Road

Pantelis Voulgaris's 1998 Greek film consists of three separate stories set in northern Greece. Each section has a man and the stance he takes towards life; settings running from city to countryside and characters from different classes complement each other. The shared subject is lateness. All three men failed to do something in time and are now trying to make it up; the narrative gives none of them a full resolution. The link between the sections is one of tone rather than event. Thanasis Veggos leads one of them, a performer known for comedy here in an entirely dramatic role. The cinematography uses the geography of Macedonia and Thrace plainly. Who it's for: those who like Greek cinema and episodic narrative. Who it's not for: viewers who want to follow one story; the three sections do not join.
