It's All Gone Pete Tong

Frankie Wilde has been playing in Ibiza for years when his hearing starts to go. First the ringing, then the sounds withdraw, then nothing. A man whose entire profession is sound loses sound. It is shot as a mockumentary and real figures joined the joke: Carl Cox, Fatboy Slim, Tiesto and Pete Tong appear under their own names and talk about remembering Wilde. Tong was also an executive producer. The title is a piece of British rhyming slang, Pete Tong standing for wrong. Paul Kaye plays Wilde. The passages where deafness is rendered through sound are the best thing here, with the music pulling away and vibration taking its place. Its flaws: some of the humour is crude, the recovery arc in the second half proceeds too tidily, and everyone outside the central character is a cartoon. Who it is for: viewers who like electronic music culture and mockumentary. Who it is not for: anyone avoiding scenes of drug use and excess.
