What Jack the Bear Is About
After losing his wife, John Leary moves to California with his two sons and takes a job hosting horror films on local television: a clown on screen and a man coming apart at home. His older son Jack is trying at once to stand in for his father, look after his little brother, and go on being a child. One of the neighbours down the street is a neo-Nazi who starts circling the boys, and from that point the film hardens. Marshall Herskovitz directs, with Danny DeVito as the father. An early-nineties American film that keeps swinging between comedy and grief and refuses to sit in either category.
