What Jagged Edge Is About

A wealthy newspaper owner accused of murdering his wife hires a lawyer, and the lawyer gets too close to her client. The entire tension comes from keeping one question suspended, and the script works hard to avoid closing it. Crucially, Glenn Close does not play naivety: the character knows what her doubts are and proceeds anyway, so the subject is self deception rather than stupidity. The courtroom material makes a reasonable attempt at procedure. Whether the final revelation plays fair is still argued about, though that same uncertainty is a large part of why the film moves.
