Deeraj Vaidy's 2016 Tamil film follows the journey of three inept men assigned to move cocaine. The story is set in an invented Tamil Nadu of 2020, with the colour palette, costumes and locations deliberately unreal. The film makes an unusual choice for Tamil cinema: rather than taking its story seriously it invests entirely in style. Chapter titles, abrupt shifts of colour and the play on the characters' names give it the air of a comic book. Siddharth's performance fits that tone. Its weakness is that beyond the style the story stays too thin, and the middle section repeats. Who it's for: viewers who like black comedy and style-driven genre films. Who it's not for: anyone wanting narrative depth, or avoiding drug and violent content.
