Justice League vs. the Fatal Five

An animated film from a comic book source. Three people come from the future to the present. Two belong to a criminal group; the third is a young man who jumped after them to stop them. Star Boy has been harmed by the time travel. He tries to explain who he is but his words are confused and nobody believes him; he is committed to a psychiatric hospital. Off his medication his powers go out of control, on it he cannot think. At the same time those from the future are running a plan: they will get someone out of prison and they need a Green Lantern ring for it. The second line is Jessica Cruz's. She carries the ring and cannot use it; there is a trauma in her past and she has panic attacks. The team wants her in the field and she is not ready. What the film is interested in is not the fighting but the mental health of two characters. The narrative builds it as the main line rather than a side theme. The action is at the usual measure for the series and the final confrontation is large. Kevin Conroy, Susan Eisenberg, Diane Guerrero and Elyes Gabel are among the voices. Sam Liu directed. Who it is for: anyone who follows the DC animated films and wants an unusual subject. Who it is not for: anyone who does not know the characters; the film explains no history and assumes you know the group from the future.
