What Kaantha Is About
Set on a film set in the Madras of the 1950s, in a country only just out of colonial rule. At the centre is the reckoning between a director trying to make his own masterpiece and the actor he once discovered and made a star, now at the very top of the industry. The tension between them hardens around the leading actress, a woman new to the profession, and the triangle runs as far as a killing on set. Selvamani Selvaraj directed and co-wrote with Thamizh Prabha; the story is fiction, but it draws on the past of Tamil cinema itself. Dulquer Salmaan, Bhagyashri Borse, Samuthirakani and Rana Daggubati take the leads. It opened worldwide in November 2025.
