What Kanak Attack Is About
Ertan, Kemal and Mehdi are three friends living in Kiel. They call themselves by a word used in German society as an insult, Kanak, and they have taken it up not as something to be ashamed of but as a stance. While the three try to stay afloat on small jobs, they are drawn step by step into violence and crime. When Ertan decides on the spur of the moment to protect two women, he makes himself powerful enemies. What follows is prison, deportation and the dream of quick money. The film carries the language and the anger of immigrant children growing up in Germany exactly as they are. Haluk Piyes plays the lead in Lars Becker’s eighty six minute German film, completed in 2000.
