What Takva: A Man's Fear of God Is About
Muharrem has lived in the same Istanbul neighbourhood for over thirty years, in a modest job and a strict devotional routine. The sheikh of the religious community he belongs to notices his devotion and gives him the task of collecting the rents on the foundation's properties. That takes him into the world he has kept away from for years: money, bargaining, a car, women, and a pride growing inside him. As the distance opens between his faith and his work, his mind comes apart. Ozer Kiziltan shows community life from inside and neither mocks nor defends it, which is why it was argued about in Turkey.
