Dream

Jin sees a car accident in a dream. When he wakes he learns it actually happened. Ran, the woman the police detain as a suspect, says she was asleep at the time. The connection surfaces: while Jin dreams, Ran acts out those dreams in her sleep. Kim Ki-duk directed; it is his fifteenth feature. It opened in Korea on 9 October 2008 and runs 95 minutes, in Korean and Japanese, distributed by Showbox. Joe Odagiri plays Jin and Lee Na-young plays Ran, with Park Ji-a and Kim Tae-hyun in the cast. The box office stayed small. It entered the Korean chart at number six with 39,042 admissions on its opening weekend. By mid-November 2008 it had 88,482 admissions and around 411,549 dollars, for an international total of 535,872. Who it is for: viewers who like symbolic films that run on dream logic. Who it is not for: anyone looking for cause and effect. The film never explains the link it builds and keeps both characters in the same trap to the end.
