What The Bow Is About
A boat far out at sea, a man of sixty aboard it, and a girl he has raised on that boat since she was small. He is counting down to her seventeenth birthday, because that is the day the two of them are to be married. They live off day fishermen who rent the deck, and he guards her with a bow that he also uses for divination. A teenage student who comes aboard undoes the whole arrangement. Kim Ki-duk builds the film with almost no dialogue and shows, rather than states, the distance between possession and love.
