In the Name of the Law

Nazim is a poor man who gets by repairing cars, and he marries Ayten, the daughter of a wealthy family. But Ayten’s stepsister Nezahat is also in love with Nazim. Nezahat joins forces with Halil, a friend of the family who is taken with Ayten, and lays a plan to break the couple apart. When the plan works, Nazim will commit a serious crime and the lives of all three will change. The film came to be counted among the first strong examples of crime storytelling in Turkish cinema. The account presents the crime not as a settling of scores but as the result of a trap that was laid. Ayhan Isik plays the lead in Lutfi Akad’s ninety four minute film, completed in 1952.
