Comidark Films 2: Insane

A taxi driver working nights has one great wish: to sit across from the woman he loves. Over the course of a single shift, what happens to him makes that simple request steadily more impossible. Cem Yilmaz wrote, directed and starred. The cast includes Ozkan Ugur, Cem Davran, Hakan Gercek, Busra Develi and Emin Gursoy. It is not a standalone feature: Karakomik Filmler 2 opened on 17 January 2020 as a package showing two medium-length films, Deli and Emanet, together. It reached Netflix six months later. The format was Yilmaz's own experiment, an attempt to tell short stories built on a single idea instead of full-length features. Deli is the sadder of the two. There is comedy, but by the end the film is not trying to make you laugh so much as to stay with loneliness, and the tone shifts accordingly. Night shooting and the scenes inside the cab build its visual language. Who it is for: viewers who like Cem Yilmaz's humour and are curious about the short format. Who it is not for: anyone expecting comedy throughout; the film turns toward drama in its second half.
