What Kathakali Is About

A man comes home from the United States to marry his girlfriend and finds himself blamed for the killing of a local gangster, on the strength of an old quarrel between them. The harder he pushes to clear himself, the more of a scheme he uncovers underneath the case, while the dead man’s in-laws send people after him. Pandiraj directed it and produced it together with Vishal, who plays the lead. Rather than run straight, the film cuts the chronology up and withholds the one piece of information that matters until late. Reviewers liked how much twisting suspense was drawn out of a thin premise, and thought the romance wedged into it the flattest thing in the picture.
