What Kekec's Tricks Is About
Jože Gale's 1968 Slovenian children's film follows a summer spent in the Alps by a clever boy named Kekec and his friends. Kekec is a hero who gets ahead by wit rather than by fighting; every problem in front of him is solved with a game, a trap or a song. He is one of Slovenia's best-loved children's characters and this is one of the films built around him. Mountain landscapes, wide spaces the children roam on their own, and a world adults mostly stay outside of. Watched by generation after generation, it counts today among the classics of Slovenian cinema.
