Good Luck, Kekec

Two boys, Kekec and Rozle, come to work as shepherds for a farmer whose daughter Mojca is blind. When evening falls they speak of a woman who lives in the mountains and is said to steal children, whose name is Pehta. In the morning the three climb to an alpine cottage, and Kekec promises Mojca he will find a remedy for her eyes. While the girl is picking flowers Pehta arrives and takes her to her hut; she wants to keep her because she likes her singing. The film shoots the alpine landscape on location and measures out its fear carefully for a young audience. The account does not declare the woman on the mountain a monster from the start. Velimir Gjurin plays the lead in Joze Gale’s seventy six minute Slovenian film, completed in 1963.
