What Killa Is About
An eleven year old boy has lost his father, and when his mother is transferred for work he has to move to a town he knows nothing about. New school, new children, nothing familiar. Avinash Arun's film does not make childhood charming; it shows what grief looks like in a child, which is mostly that it does not look like anything at all. The green and the rain of the Konkan coast are used as material every bit as concrete as the mood. It won the Crystal Bear from the children's jury at the sixty fourth Berlin Film Festival and best Marathi film at the sixty second National Film Awards. The title is the Marathi word for a fort.
