What Kit Kittredge: An American Girl Is About

Set in Cincinnati during the Great Depression. Kit wants to be a reporter and writes constantly; when her father loses his business and leaves to look for work, her mother starts taking in boarders to keep the house. Every person who moves in comes with a story. After her mother's cash box is stolen, suspicion falls straight onto the homeless newcomers, and Kit refuses to accept it. Adapted from a well-known American doll line, but the film manages to explain poverty and prejudice to children without talking down. Good for watching as a family.
