Klown

Frank learns his girlfriend is pregnant and that she does not think he is father material. To disprove it he takes her twelve-year-old nephew along on his friend Casper's secret canoe trip. Casper's trip is not a nature outing; it has an entirely different purpose. The film is not interested in cringe comedy as such. It is interested in two grown men who stayed children: it keeps pushing Frank toward a worse decision and gives the audience no way out. This is the hardest vein of Danish humour. The form comes from the series: handheld camera, dialogue close to improvisation, embarrassment played in real time. The source is Klovn, ten seasons and seventy-eight episodes, with Frank Hvam and Casper Christensen playing fictional versions of themselves. The film opened on 16 December 2010 and in the two remaining weeks of the year became the most watched Danish film of 2010; by February 2011 it had sold 848,500 tickets, in a country of 5.5 million. Mikkel Nørgaard directed. Who it is for: viewers who like cringe comedy and humour without limits. Who it is not for: anyone who cannot take sexual jokes in scenes where the child is present. The film crosses that line knowingly and repeatedly.
