What The Absent One Is About
Mikkel Norgaard's 2014 film follows two detectives reopening a murder case closed twenty years earlier. The accused man confessed. The confession does not convince. The film turns the suspicion towards a wealthy group from a boarding school; the narrative makes class privilege its real subject. It is the second film in the series. It is adapted from a Jussi Adler-Olsen novel. It is a Danish production. Who it's for: those who like Nordic crime. Who it's not for: viewers who cannot take sexual violence and cruelty to animals; the film shows both.
