Knit's Island

This 2024 documentary by Ekiem Barbier, Guilhem Causse and Quentin L'helgoualc'h was shot entirely inside a video game. The directors spent more than nine hundred hours in it recording the communities living there. The game is built on survival and the players have set their own rules. One has founded a cult, another runs a camp; the narrative speaks with these people and the conversations take place inside the game. The interest lies in the blurring of the line. As the players describe their characters they slip into their own lives, and unemployment, loneliness and belief enter the talk. The images are taken entirely from the game engine. Who it's for: those curious about experimental documentary and online cultures. Who it's not for: viewers with no knowledge of games; the film explains nothing.
