Bad Cat

Sero, a cat living in Cihangir, is thrown out of his owner's flat. In the course of one day he settles scores with old enemies, falls in love for the first time and turns the neighbourhood upside down. With him are Riza the seagull and Rifki the rat. Mehmet Kurtulus and Ayse Unal directed, from Bulent Ustun's comic series of the same name. The voice cast includes Ugur Yucel, Demet Evgar, Okan Yalabik, Guven Kirac, Yekta Kopan and Aysen Gruda. It is one of the few adult animations produced in Turkey. The language and humour come straight from the comic: a world built on swearing, sex and street speech. It opened on 5 February 2016 and drew more than 350,000 admissions across a six-week run. Its strongest quality is how recognisably Istanbul is transferred into animation; the streets of Cihangir are drawn almost exactly. Who it is for: viewers who like adult animation and Bulent Ustun's humour. Who it is not for: anyone planning to watch with children; this is definitely not for them.
