What La Ronde Is About
Adapted from Arthur Schnitzler's play, which was scandalous enough in its day to be banned. In Vienna around 1900 ten people are chained to one another: a soldier with a streetwalker, then with a maid, the maid with the young man of the house, the young man with a married woman, and the chain eventually comes back to where it started. There is no plot as such, there is a carousel. Anton Walbrook holds it together as a narrator who strolls at the edge of the set and pulls back the curtain.
