Las mujeres son cosa de guapos

In Argentina in the nineteen thirties, two dimwits, Rufino and Jacinto, are hired as tough guys by the political boss Malatesta. Their job is to frighten his opponents, arrange things at the ballot box and make sure the boss is obeyed. The two take the role seriously, and once they start work we see how incompetent they are. Then they meet Mercedes and La Mendocina, and change sides. Hugo Sofovich's film brings together Alberto Olmedo and Jorge Porcel, the best known double act in Argentine popular cinema. Their comedy rests on improvisation, repetition and the fact that the audience already knows them. The story is set in the thirties, but its subject, rigged voting and intimidation, is notable given the period in which the film was made. Moria Casán and Susana Giménez are also in the cast.
