Last Call

Sherif Francis's 2026 Greek film takes place in Athens on the last night of 1999. A fugitive holding a live grenade takes a family hostage and demands to go on live television. When the demand is granted, the situation moves onto the air. The film makes the broadcast itself part of the tension; the narrative moves between channel executives, a young reporter and a divided police force, and brings in the pleasure the audience takes in watching. Events proceed close to real time. Orfeas Avgoustidis appears. The tone is tense and the violence limited. Who it's for: those who like real-time thrillers and media satire. Who it's not for: viewers for whom a hostage situation would be difficult.
