What Late Night Shopping Is About
Sean, Vincent, Lenny and Jody are four friends, all of them on permanent night shifts. Because they sleep through the day, their lives are identical: every night they meet at the same café over coffee and listen to Vincent's unbroken run of success with women. They have nothing except the work and nothing else to talk about. Just when it is clear nothing will ever change, Vincent accidentally sleeps with Sean's girlfriend. Saul Metzstein's Scottish comedy contains almost no daytime at all. It rests on four young actors and on talk rather than plot. It describes the condition of a generation that found work and never got round to a life.
