What Leonora in the Morning Light Is About
Thor Klein's 2025 film is about the painter Leonora Carrington. In her youth she was with Max Ernst and moved inside the surrealist circle. Her life comes apart when the war begins. The film covers her confinement in a clinic and her later journey to Mexico; the narrative does not present illness as the source of her art and questions how the men around her saw her. Olivia Vinall and Alexander Scheer lead. The period design is careful. The tone is heavy. Who it's for: viewers of art history and biographical drama. Who it's not for: viewers for whom the treatment shown in a psychiatric clinic would be difficult.
