Let the Dance Begin

Carlos and Margarita were once the most famous tango couple of their generation. Years later Carlos is enjoying a comfortable second life in Madrid while Margarita lives in Buenos Aires in poverty and obscurity. With their inseparable friend Pichuquito, the three set off from Gardel’s city towards the foot of the Andes. Marina Seresesky, who wrote as well as directed, builds it as a road movie and uses tango not as nostalgic decor but as the way three people finally say what they have not been able to say to each other for years. It handles old age without asking for pity; the point is not to bring the past back but to decide how to spend what is left. Darío Grandinetti, Mercedes Morán and Jorge Marrale lead this Argentine-Spanish co-production, which took the audience award at Málaga in March 2023.
