Life in Shadows

Carlos is a young man devoted to cinema, creative and ambitious. After long effort he becomes a professional camera operator. In the same period he is with Ana, the woman he had long wanted. When the Civil War breaks out in 1936, the lives of both of them change. Carlos takes his camera into the war, and that choice reshapes everything that follows. The film treats cinema as a responsibility as much as a trade. The tension between recording and living sits at the centre of the story. The seventy four minutes are spread over a long period. Fernando Fernán Gómez and María Dolores Pradera appear in Lorenzo Llobet Gràcia’s Spanish film, completed in 1949.
