Life Is to Whistle

The film takes place in present day Havana. The stories of three people run side by side. Mariana is a ballet dancer. She made a promise to God in order to get the role of Giselle. What she promised was celibacy. Once she has the role she has to keep her word. Julia works in social services. She faints whenever she hears a particular word. She does not know herself where that comes from. Elpidio is a percussionist and smokes pot. His mother left him years ago. The woman happens to be called Cuba. The man has still not got over that parting. All three of them are inside a belief that limits them. They have to choose between letting it go and holding on. Luis Alberto García and Isabel Santos appear in the hundred and six minute film, a Cuban production Fernando Pérez finished in 1998.
