What Suite Habana Is About
The documentary follows one day in Havana through ten people. A doctor who is up early, a man who works in a factory by day and goes on stage at night, an old woman looking after her grandchild, a boy who wants to be a dancer and a young man with Down syndrome; each day is divided between work, queues, repairs and getting ready for the evening. There is not a single interview or line of narration; only images, the noise of the city and music. Who they are we learn from a few lines at the end. Fernando Pérez’s eighty four minute Cuban documentary neither decorates daily life nor accuses it; it was completed in 2003.
