What Like the Clouds, Like the Wind Is About
Ginga is a cheerful country girl living with her father far from the capital. When she hears that the newly enthroned emperor is taking wives, she talks her father into letting her go. At the palace she and the other candidates are taught to read and write, taught history and taught court manners, and her relentless enthusiasm keeps getting her into trouble, until a conspiracy inside the palace and a rebellion marching on the city make it useful. Adapted from a novel by Ken’ichi Sakemi, this television film was made by Studio Pierrot and broadcast on NTV in March 1990. It is still widely mistaken for a Ghibli film, partly because a Ghibli animator designed the characters and partly because an early fan translation credited the wrong Miyazaki as writer.
