Long Live Love!

Piyakarn Butprasert's 2023 Thai film follows a father who keeps none of his promises and a family at the point of breaking. Sati will not give up his partying; his wife Meta is preparing to leave, and his fifteen-year-old daughter Namo expects nothing of him. The film tries to open that knot through comedy. The path it chooses is to leave room for the family to make its own decision rather than to have the father forgiven, an unusual choice in mainstream Thai comedy. Sunny Suwanmethanon plays the part without making it endearing. The film's limit is turning toward an emotional tidying in the final section and not opening the mother's point of view enough. Who it's for: viewers who like Thai comedy drama and family stories. Who it's not for: anyone expecting the father figure to be easily forgiven, or who dislikes comedy themed around drinking and nightlife.
