Atharintiki Daaredi

Gautham is a wealthy businessman running a large company in Europe. His grandfather has one wish: to bring back the daughter who was cut off from the family years ago for marrying by her own choice, Gautham's aunt. He hides his identity and enters her house as a driver. Inside are two cousins and a matter nobody has discussed for years. Trivikram Srinivas writes and directs. Pawan Kalyan plays Gautham and Nadhiya plays the aunt, with Samantha and Pranitha Subhash in the cast. The shape is the family comedy common in Telugu cinema: a hero in disguise, a crowded house, a matriarch and misunderstandings. Trivikram is known for dialogue and the talk is the strongest thing here too; the lines stayed in circulation among Telugu audiences for a long time. The core is a woman's decision. The aunt defying her family years ago and what it cost her is the emotional centre, and the comedy turns around it. It broke box office records in Telugu cinema at the time and is among the highest earning films of Pawan Kalyan's career. Its problem is length and repetition. It runs close to three hours and the same comic pattern returns several times in the second half; some of the women exist only as material for jokes. Who it is for: viewers who like Telugu family comedy and Pawan Kalyan. Who it is not for: it is very long, the humour is tied to its culture, and the narrative is predictable.
