What Lourdes Is About
Millions of people come to Lourdes every year, most of them hoping for healing, and what receives them is a large body of nurses, volunteers and hospital staff. Thierry Demaiziere and Alban Teurlai filmed there for eight months in 2017 and cut two hundred hours down to an hour and a half. The camera follows around a dozen pilgrims: people injured in accidents, people who are seriously ill, a teenager being bullied at school, a group who came from Paris. The film neither confirms nor denies a miracle; what it looks at is the human capacity to attend to one another. It was nominated for best documentary at both the Cesar and the Lumiere awards.
