What Love from a Stranger Is About
A young woman wins a large prize in a lottery. With the money she goes on a holiday in Europe. She is swept off her feet by a charming man she meets on the way and finds herself married before she has quite taken it in. In time his loving manner begins to crack. One day he asks her to sign a document turning her whole fortune over to him. In that moment she understands where she stands. The film builds its tension through two people rather than a crowded cast. How a fortune come by suddenly turns a person into a target is the real subject. Ann Harding and Basil Rathbone appear in Rowland V. Lee’s eighty six minute British film, completed in 1937.
