Malliswari

K. Vijaya Bhaskar's 2004 Telugu film follows a princess in hiding. Trying to live as an ordinary person, Malliswari meets a man who does not know who she is, and an ordinary relationship begins between them. The comedy comes from that gap in knowledge. The men sent to find the princess keep following the wrong person; the narrative piles up misunderstandings and does not take its own tension seriously. Venkatesh leads with Katrina Kaif as the princess, her lines dubbed. The tone is light, the music foregrounded, and Brahmanandam's comic passages hold a space of their own. Who it's for: those who like Telugu commercial comedy of the two thousands. Who it's not for: viewers expecting consistent plotting; the film keeps bending its logic in favour of the jokes.
