Nuvvu Naaku Nachav

K. Vijaya Bhaskar's 2001 Telugu film follows two young people who realise, after the woman is engaged to someone else, that what began as friendship has turned into love. The story takes place in a large family house, with wedding preparations as its ground. The film became one of the most cited examples of the Telugu family film and set its template: the extended family, ceremony, silent glances. Venkatesh's performance carries with restraint a man who cannot say what he feels. What makes it interesting is that the solution is neither running away nor rebellion but speaking within the family. It runs long and the middle section moves heavily. Who it's for: viewers who like Telugu family drama and Indian romance of the 2000s. Who it's not for: anyone wanting a short narrative, or who will find the traditional family setting too central.
