Mark of an Angel

Elsa is in the middle of a hard divorce and custody case. One day she sees a small girl called Lola and from that moment cannot hold herself back. She invents reasons to be near the child, finds out where she lives, waits outside her school. When Lola's mother Claire becomes uneasy, Elsa stops hiding it and says it: this child is my daughter. Safy Nebbou's film proves neither woman right and blames neither of them. How much of what Elsa is chasing is real and how much of it is the loss itself, the film leaves open for a long time. Catherine Frot and Sandrine Bonnaire play against each other, and the tension comes entirely out of the way the two of them look. A quiet, low-voiced drama that stays uncomfortable to the end.
