Nigel Barber What Mars: One Day on the Red Planet Is About
The documentary travels a single day on Mars, from dawn to sunset, through images built out of satellite and rover data. Along the way it takes in Olympus Mons, the largest volcano in the Solar System, the canyon of Valles Marineris running for kilometres, the layers of ice at the poles and lake beds thought once to have held water. The account gives these not as imagination but as a surface derived from measured data, and the wreckage of earlier missions lies along the route as well. Martin Johnson’s eighty eight minute documentary builds the planet as a landscape film; it was completed in 2020.
