Rainer Voss
Angela Merkel What Master of the Universe Is About
Rainer Voss was for years one of Germany's most senior investment bankers, moving millions of euros a day. The documentary finds him sitting on an upper floor of an emptied bank building in the middle of Frankfurt, looking out at a skyline of glass and steel, and talking: how they worked, what they knew, and what they never once thought about. Marc Bauder's 2013 film builds its account of the crisis not out of events but out of the mind of the man who did the job. It rests on what a single source says; it is testimony from inside rather than a verdict on the whole of banking. The empty building and one man are the entire set.
