Maya Lin: A Strong Clear Vision

Maya Lin was an architecture student of twenty. She entered the competition for the Vietnam memorial. Her design won. Winning turned out to be the easy part. The design was plain and abstract, and it drew heavy opposition. The attacks were aimed not only at the idea but at her. She was targeted over her background. The memorial was built all the same. It went on to become one of the most loved memorials in America. The documentary follows that process from beginning to end. Other works of hers are in the story too. The Civil Rights memorial is one of them. The film also asks what a memorial is for. The production won the Academy Award for best documentary. Maya Lin speaks in the eighty three minute documentary, an American production Freida Lee Mock finished in 1995.
