Return with Honor

The documentary takes up the Vietnam War. At the centre of the account are American fighter pilots. The pilots were shot down over North Vietnam. Those who survived were taken prisoner. For some the captivity ran as long as eight and a half years. The film tells what they went through in that time. The conditions they were held in are inside the account. So is the torture they suffered. The support they built among themselves is told as well. Those who speak are the pilots themselves. What they tell is their own testimony. Everett Alvarez and George Day are among them. Ron Bliss, Fred Cherry and Jeremiah Denton are in the film as well. Tom Hanks narrates it. Freida Lee Mock and Terry Sanders’s American documentary of 1999 runs a hundred and one minutes.
